School of Blessing

We are not a brand.
We are a school.

FORÊ — pronounced , and written 福尘 — is a school of small blessings. Our name is Fú. Our mission is to bring the forgotten Eastern art of blessing-making into your daily life.

Five quiet vows

We make the objects.
You make the ritual.

  1. 01

The object is not the blessing

    物非福

The peach twig, the prayer bead, the small stone — none of these is the blessing. The blessing is the time you give to a single gesture. We make the objects; you make the ritual.

  2. 02

    Less is more

    少即是多

Three minutes is enough. Twenty-one breaths is enough. The blessing is not in the time you give it — it is in the sincerity with which you give it.

  3. 03

    Hand-numbered, not mass-printed

    手编号

Each piece is hand-stamped with its number, of three hundred. We do not reprint. When a month is sold out, it is sold out. The next blessing arrives in the next season.

  4. 04

    From the same earth

    土生土

All wood, stone, and ink are sourced from Hunan. We do not ship across oceans to save money. The blessing is local, and the riverbed is known to us by name.

  5. 05

    You are the ritual

    你即仪

We do not promise results. We promise a small, well-made object, a drawn plate, a recorded breath. What the ritual does in your life is yours to discover.

04 HANDS

Where the school came from

Three hands, one thread, four generations.

1920

外婆的针线盒

The first hand

In a Hunan village, a grandmother kept a small wooden box. Inside were four objects her own grandmother had given her: a peach twig, a single card, a hand-drawn plate, a pebble. Each month, on the first day, she would set them out on a low table and sit with them for as long as it took to finish a cup of tea. The children called this keeping the blessing.

1974

母亲的白瓷碗

The second hand

The grandmother's daughter — a schoolteacher in Changsha — inherited the box. She did not have time for tea. She would set out the four objects before sleep, and sit with them for the time it took her pulse to settle. She called this listening to the blessing. Her students never knew.

2010

我的手

The third hand

The schoolteacher's daughter, now an architect in New York, received the box by post. She did not have a low table. She set the four objects on a window ledge facing east, and would stand with them for the time it took to take nine breaths. The peach twig had begun to crack. The card had yellowed. The plate was almost illegible. The pebble was the same.

FORÊ · 福尘

The fourth hand

The school was founded so that others might keep their own small box. We make four objects a month, one hundred years after the first grandmother. We do not claim to know what the blessing does. We only know that the riverbed is still there, and the peach trees still bloom, and a child, somewhere, is being told: first the box, then the tea.

On the four-syllable chant

Four syllables,
said slowly, is a practice.

Each blessing carries a four-syllable chant. The chant is not a spell. It is a way of placing the tongue against the four corners of the mouth. The breath does the rest. Slowly is the only correct speed.

静水如心
jìng shuǐ rú xīn
still water like heart
流金如水
liú jīn rú shuǐ
flowing gold like water
花开有声
huā kāi yǒu shēng
flower opens with sound
见山还川
jiàn shān huán chuān
see mountain return river

The four artifacts

Four artifacts.
Four disciplines.

01

符文 · Fúwén

Hand-painted talisman. Cinnabar and gold ink on Xuan paper. Brushstroke carries the power.

02

念语 · Niànyǔ

Daily chant. Four syllables. Sincerity is the instrument. Wish as you would pray.

03

手诀 · Shǒujué

Hand seal yoga. Three minutes. Breath returns to body. Attention returns to breath.

04

饰品 · Shìpǐn

Sacred charm. Crystal, leaf, coin, gourd. Each holds a unique qì-yùn, fortune aura.
