外婆的针线盒
The first hand
In a Hunan village, a grandmother kept a small wooden box. Inside were four objects her own grandmother had given her: a peach twig, a single card, a hand-drawn plate, a pebble. Each month, on the first day, she would set them out on a low table and sit with them for as long as it took to finish a cup of tea. The children called this keeping the blessing.
